4 Easy Ways to Improve Your LinkedIn Profile [guest post]

Let’s face it, the amount of time you waste on Facebook could be put to much better use. But, if you must spend your time on one social network, it might as well be LinkedIn. The social network for business professionals definitely has the most potential for improving your future career and accomplishing your business goals.
Your profile should say everything it can about who you are as a business professional. This is especially true because it tends to be displayed pretty high on Google’s search results for your name.
You should want to keep your profile as up to date because shows that you’re productive and on top of things; and, have it shin the brightest and most positive light on you as possible.
Here are four quick, easy ways you can improve your LinkedIn profile.

1. Write a killer headline
The goal of any piece of writing is always to get the reader to read the next sentence. The same goes for LinkedIn profile. If your headline is lackluster and boring, you have a much, much lesser chance of standing out.
Your headline should say who you are, who your audience is or whom you’re trying to impress, and how you can help them. Say it quickly and in a creative manner.
Go ahead: be original. I dare you.

2. Add a highly personal summary
Once you’ve captured the attention of visitors on your profile with your headline, match it with an equally awesome summary.
Your summary should be very personalized. Just think: would you want to read bullet points that sound like every other person’s resume? No.
You should discuss who you are, what you like to do, what you strive to do, and any goals that you may have. Give readers a reason to like you.
Also, try and match the tone of your headline to your summary. For example, if you were witty at the beginning, be witty throughout.

3. Provoke action and response
So, assuming you’ve done what I’ve instructed and created two interesting bits of writing that really sell who you are, you’re next step is to get your visitors to do something. What that is, is up to you.
If you’re a graphic designer and have an online portfolio website, lead them there. Or, if you provide SEO service, lead them to your company’s website and give them a further taste of what you can do. You can always give contact information too.
You’re trying to sell yourself (you wouldn’t be on LinkedIn if you weren’t), so always give your readers somewhere to go next.

4. Triple-check everything
Probably the worst thing you could do is have an incomplete profile full of errors
Check for grammar. Check for spelling. Make it look like you belong in the business world. Typos are a big turn-off for hiring recruiters.
Check your facts. Oh, you’re the only person with a nine-digit telephone number? Not impressive. Make sure your contact information and outgoing links are in full working order.

Social Media Statistics and its Massive increase

Ok, so i cant hammer on this more and cant give you all the information behind it, but social media and social media strategies are becoming core factors for online.

I came across this information via comScore.com and looking at this we can see that social media is not stopping to grow any time soon, so if you don't get it after this then i don't know how much hope there is for you or your business in the internet marketing world.

Social is important and you need to know that, what people say about your business is not just becoming rankings factors in major search engines but it is also now where users will talk about who you are - conclusion is: if people talk about you in social then you could stand a better chance of ranking, AND more and more people are using social networks (as indicated below) so there is no fighting, users look for what they want on social platforms and listen to what their friends say, one way or another you will have to deal with social media and if you looking to "get your brand out there" then social networks are a good place to look into. (* I'm not saying social is everything but i want to place emphasis on the importance and the power of it*)

I personally love social and the kick behind it, the big role it is starting (has been playing) to pay in SEO and the amount of people it is getting online. Social media is basically the call to action of the world wide web, it works and you need it. point.

any way!, ill stop rambling off about what i think and give you the information.

Social Media Networks Statistics

Looking back from Jully 2007 till May 2011 and the total time spent online.

Then looking at Facebook and MySpace - in 2009 Facebook finally took ahead of MySpace

Looking at the size of Facebook and with its  157.2 million visitors in May i dont need to say anything more. its Massive, its ONE OF THE biggest companies in the world and it is SOCIAL !

Comparing LinkedIn, Twitter and Tumblr with their monthly unique vistors we also see the big rise in LinkedIn as a corporate social platform (yes that is Corporate and Social in one sentence, and it is here to stay ! )

These are all things we cant look away from, Social Media does have a massive impact online and the term word of mouth makes social media a very strong voice.

I truly wish i could share some more insight on this but you can read the full post on social media network effects by comScore .

Please feel free to share your thoughts, any questions will be attended to ASAP. lets get social. ;)

Enjoy

20 Things you should know about Social Media Marketing (INFOGRAPH)

And the same way as about 80% of online marketers when i see an infograph my mouth hangs open and i am distracted for at least 5 - 10 min wiping over my mout every now and then with tears coming out of my eyes.. there is no focus but THAT INFOGRAPH!... oeeee, i love them. They always look so cool and give you things to tweet and talk about for about a whole hour. so here it is, a colleague of mine and Social Media Expert @misslailah passed this on to me this morning giving a great kick start to the day!

This was even before coffee so i was a whistling SEO Specialist even before caffeine. . . Life is good in the online marketing side of life.

Anyhow, here is the search and social media statistics infograph brought to us by @WebProffits; and thank you guys to for playing a big role in the happiness of my day.

Then the one thing that just brought me back to the arm swinging smiling hip walk to want 1st place in SERPs is the one fact on this graph: “Traffic Received by Google SEO rankings in 1st place is twice as much as those ranking second. (so if you have been wondering why that #1 is so fucking important and people send SEO hit men to get them, this is why!!! hehe, see here i go again ;) .. my o my.. have fun and feel free to share your thoughts, just don’t drool in the comment box, it might look spammy!

See you smiling now?, hehe go have coffee and have a kick ass day! (* yes i say DAY because this will be posted now so its morning in the US and the South African online life is half on their way home already, or in front of the tv, or catching rhinos somewhere! (because we cool like that right! ) hehe..

Google Chrome TV Advert in UK leaves questions about Google's Social Media Plans

Came across something extremely interesting just now. A TV advert in the UK for Google chrome

Might they be targeting parents and maybe starting scrap booking online? Isn't that what our Facebook profiles are? Just scrap books of our life's and everyone in it... Now i know Google and Facebook doesn't sit around the same table... smirking, something social is on its way from Google and who knows, could it take the world by storm? Could this be the reason for Google +1 ? to add anything you like to your scrap book. . . . I'm really starting to like this thought Google is creating with their social media plans, could they just inform us already~! i suck at being curios .. :)

Any how, enjoy the video.

So, your toughs on this? where do you think Google is going to stick out their heads in the social media world ?

Google +1 Rolling out? SEOMoz +1

Making a few searches through out the day is normal to me, when looking for articles that was written in 2009 that i cant remember shit of what was said comes in useful every now and then, even if it just means searching for them .

So i had a read in this week i think, that Google is getting ready to launch the +1 Social Media Button and things are really looking up?

An then i found voila !! :)

By the looks of things this might be rolling out quicker than what we think ? The Goole +1 is going live and i think it is only a matter of time before we fighting the spam on it as well.. and i think there are a few in the SEO business that is facepalming about this. (if you cant see what im trying to say the 2nd & 3rd listing has a +1 next to it. )

Lovely day for you all.
